Report by Shlomi Fish
Well, Sagiv gave a ride to Mikhael and me. He picked me from my home at Ramat Aviv Gimel, and Mikhael from near the Tel Aviv Theme Park, and we parked near F5 and went to Aroma. Ran was already there.
We didn't have any laptops, so we just sat outside and chatted. We discussed the situation in the North (from which Migo was affected, due to the fact he lived in Qiriath Motskin), as well as life in the Internet and Perl World. Then Gabor came along with a laptop, and we went inside to enjoy the wireless Internet.
Well, Gabor could not immediately connect his network to the café's Internet because something in his configuration got bad after his Ubunutu's upgrade. I could not handle it, but eventually Migo was able to re-enable the networking there. Meanwhile, however, one of Ran's co-workers arrived, and he had a WinXP laptop with wireless as well, and Firefox, and so Ran, Sagiv and I were able to login to the wiki and edit some pages.
We encountered some technical problems due to the fact that the computer had several Firefox plugins installed, which caused the keyboard not to function as we were used to. But we survived. Somehow.
What we did was set up a list of lectures from the list of presentations, and placed it in the tentative Meeting Schedule.
We had some discussions about which presentations found interesting and Ran made the final decision. We also eventually added more ideas to the list. I also noticed we skipped some ideas that were in a list and not as headlines.
We also ended up listing some more "Foreign Languages" to review. This got us into a discussion of whether to teach Ruby-on-Rails or plain old Ruby.
One thing I told Sagiv about is the HTML accesskey attribute.
I only ordered a fruit tea because I expected we will go to somewhere better with Real Food later on. But that didn't take place eventually because we had to go to August Penguin 5 the next morning. And as it turned out Aroma wasn't Kosher either.
Better places to have the meeting next time:
- "Shipudey Pinath Hashlosha" - probably Kosher and with real food, and some interesting Bucharian Entrées. I don't know if they have wireless.
- Leo Bloom's - an Irish Pub - non-Kosher, they have wireless, and also have Real Food (like Hamburgers, etc.) and Real Drinks.
